"Literature is my Utopia. Here I am not disenfranchised. No barrier of the sense shuts me out from the sweet, gracious discourse of my book friends. They talk to me without embarrassment or awkwardness."

—Helen Adams Keller (1880-1968) American memoirist, lecturer

Pups Assisting Children With Kindness is a special reading program.

Reading P.A.C.K. is a available for children in Title 1 Reading, Reading Recovery or other similar program.  The Reading P.A.C.K. program encourages children to read to a dog that will not judge or criticize the child's performance.  The unconditional acceptance, lack of judgment and novelty that a dog offers a child can result in improved reading scores and enhance a child's general attitude about reading.

Reading sessions with dogs will be held the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month from 5:30 p.m. until 6:50 p.m. at the library.  Individual reading sessions with dogs will be scheduled at 5:30, 5:50, 6:10, and 6:30 p.m.  Available handlers and dogs are limited.  Registration is requested.  Drop-in's are welcome if reading slots are available.

Call the library at 283-2824 to see if your child qualifies to participate in this fun program and to sign up for a reading time.
